MLAX: Ryan Tierney Named to USA Sixes World Games Roster – Hofstra University Athletics

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra men’s lacrosse great Ryan Tierney was selected to the 12-man Sixes roster to compete for Team USA at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama from July 8-12, USA Lacrosse announced today in a press release.

The lacrosse competition will use the new, high-intensity Sixes discipline developed by World Lacrosse for international competitions such as The World Games. Sixes is a fast-paced version of the sport played on a smaller field (70 x 36 meters), with fewer players (6-v-6), a condensed game length (four 8-minute quarters) and a 30-second shot clock.

Tierney was previously selected to three Team USA Sixes rosters in 2021, and he was named to the roster for the USA Fall Classic in October 2021.

A 2021 Hofstra graduate, Tierney suited up in 63 games for the Pride from 2017-21, and holds the program and Colonial Athletic Association records for points and goals in a career. The Massapequa-native finished his time at Hofstra with 251 points and 164 goals, passing the all-time goals record set by Tom Kessler (1999-2001) and the all-time points mark set by Jerry Simandl (1952-55) at Hofstra , as well as the CAA career records for goals and points previously held by Delaware’s Curtis Dickson (2007-10). In addition, his 87 career assists ranks him fourth in Hofstra history and sixth on the CAA leaderboard.

Tierney concluded his terrific career in 2021 as a USILA Second Team All-American after posting 65 points on 43 goals and 22 assists, in addition to 27 ground balls and seven caused turnovers, as the Pride advanced to the 2021 CAA Championship Game. In addition to his Second Team All-America honors from the USILA, Tierney received Third Team All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine, and he was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Year.

A second-round selection in the 2021 PLL College Entry Draft, Tierney played professionally for Whipsnakes LC this past summer, appearing in six games and registering three points on one goal and two assists, and will play for Cannons LC in 2022.
