How do you get some extra luck at a Las Vegas resort? Maybe by releasing more than 100,000 ladybugs.

At least that’s what Resort World Las Vegas is hoping. The resort is introducing thousands of ladybugs ahead of Earth Day to eliminate a major portion of the insects that plague the valley each year and reduce pesticides.

“This release of ladybugs is an effective way to reduce the need for harmful pesticides across our property’s landscape and the Las Vegas Valley,” said Brendan Dellerba, director of horticulture and floral for Resorts World Las Vegas, in a statement. “Not to mention, ladybugs have come to symbolize luck and prosperity.”

According to the release, the ladybugs will help naturally reduce the resort’s use of pesticides to kill aphids, mealybug, scale, leafhoppers, mites and other insects that damage the landscape.
