DETROIT – What a day for Michigan’s own, Jack White! First, he released a new album. Then, he performed the National Anthem at Opening Day of the Detroit Tigers game, as seen in the video above. Finally, he not only proposed to his girlfriend on stage during his homecoming concert tonight, but he married her right on the spot. The marriage has been confirmed to MLive by his publicist.
According to journalists, Gary Graff of the Oakland Press and Adam Graham of the Detroit News, both of whom were in the audience at tonight’s concert at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, White proposed to his girlfriend during the song “Hotel Yorba” at the end of his main set before marrying her at the beginning of the encore.
“Jack White just proposed to his girlfriend, Olivia Jean, on stage at the Masonic Temple during the opening night of his “Supply Chain Issues” tour,” Graham wrote on Twitter, “He did it during “Hotel Yorba.” She said yes, and he rolled right into the “let’s get married” line. Crowd went crazy.”
The Detroit News added on Twitter that “the quickie ceremony was attended by Jack’s mother, Olivia’s father and a sold-out, roaring Detroit crowd.”
One fan put it into perspective by writing this on Twitter: “Welp, I went to a Jack White concert and ended up watching him propose and get married to his girlfriend, Olivia Jean. I literally attended Jack White’s wedding. Unreal.”
White is a graduate of Cass Tech High School in Detroit. Jean is also a singer/songwriter and Detroit native. White, who is a 12-time Grammy-winner, also has concerts scheduled for tomorrow night at Detroit’s Masonic Temple and at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids this Sunday.
